Methamphetamine is Prolific in New Zealand

Methamphetamine is plaguing New Zealand and presents the single biggest concern for drug agencies in New Zealand. Understand how meth is currently being used in New Zealand.

Methamphetamine Risks in Your Property

The health risks of methamphetamine are significant. But it is not just the users of meth that face risks. If you are in a building that has been exposed to methamphetamine, then you are at risk!

Methamphetamine & Asset Management

The Ministry of Health provides us with very specific guidelines highlighting at what levels methamphetamine traces become dangerous within homes.

Our Meth Tests

Active Testing Solutions sets the gold standard in methamphetamine testing. We adhere to the highest possible standards of sample collection and laboratory analysis. We work to NIOSH9111 and New Zealand Ministry of Health standards.

Laboratory Composite Test

Individual samples are taken from at least five locations throughout the property. Parts of each sample are then combined in our state of the art ISO accredited laboratories to test for any methamphetamine contamination.

Individual Laboratory Test

Similar to the laboratory composite tests, multiple samples are taken from site. These samples are then individually tested to ascertain the specific contamination levels within each area of the property.

Post Remediation Test

If methamphetamine is found, you will need to have the area professionally cleaned. Following remediation work, we can retest the area to ensure contamination has been completely removed.

How it Works?

Many meth testing companies use a single test throughout your home or establishment. Not only does this not comply with the Ministry of Health Guidelines, it can result in significant additional costs being faced if meth is found to be present. Active Testing Solutions uses fully trained collection technicians and only use individual sampling techniques which meet not only New Zealand but international standards. Our mission is to set the gold standard in methamphetamine testing.

1. Collect Testing Samples
Our professionally trained collection technicians will visit the property to collect samples.

2. Individual Laboratory Tested Swabs
Each swab is used only once to ensure zero cross contamination.

3. Same Day Shipping of Samples
All samples are shipped directly to our state of the art laboratory partners.

4. Laboratory Composite Test
A small section of each individual sample is combined by our laboratory technicians to test for contamination.

5. Sample Storage
Each sample is stored FREE OF CHARGE for 30 days in case retesting is required.

6. Meth is found, what now?
As the individual samples are already at the lab, each sample will now be individually tested to ascertain the levels of contamination in each room, without our collection technicians needing to come back to site. Please note that additional charges will apply for the individual testing of each sample.

Why Test For Meth?

New Zealand is facing a crisis. Meth, more commonly referred to as P is an epidemic sweeping our nation. It is used by people from all walks of life, from habitual drug users to high level execs and everyone in between. There is no single demographic that is safe from this awful addiction. There have even been recent cases of some undesirable trades people using the drug while building new houses, meaning that the houses are becoming contaminated as they are being built.

Traditionally meth was produced in houses, often referred to as P-Labs. However we are now seeing meth being manufactured in a number of places including campervans, motorhomes, motel and hotel rooms. It is estimated that the people producing meth are becoming so sophisticated that they can manufacture the drug in just a few hours. This means that nowhere is safe. It is for this reason that we are encouraging hotels and motels in particular to introduce periodic testing of their rooms to ensure their patrons health and wellbeing.

Health Risks

Meth can affect people differently. However here are a few of the more common health related issues.

  • Lack of ability to sleep or even rest
  • Hyper active behavior becoming a normal state
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Migraines, headaches, nausea and dizziness
  • Respiratory issues
  • Hard to concentrate for long periods
  • Severely compromised immune system
  • Cause rashes and burns

Safety

No matter how you look at it, meth is a drug made from seriously harmful chemicals.

  • Anti-freeze
  • Solvents (the actual solvents used often vary)
  • Precursor drugs (some of which can be bought over the counter from pharmacies)
  • Sulphuric Acid
  • Hydrochloric Acid
  • Lithium (note that this is the substance found in batteries)
  • Sodium Hydroxide

Financial

Yes, there is a financial outlay to having a meth test, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

  • The cost of remedial work can reach into the hundreds of thousands.
  • Add value to your rental property by ensuring the property is meth free.
  • Expedite selling your home by showing your home is meth free.
  • Promote your hotel by highlighting the fact that your establishment is regularly tested.
